Substrate for Hoyas with a high proportion of pine bark, designed to create a very airy, structured, and fast-draining environment around the roots.
The base consists of two sizes of pine bark, which create a stable, coarse structure. A high proportion of perlite ensures plenty of air between the particles, while coconut chips help retain the necessary moisture without using fine coco coir, which would unnecessarily compact the mix.
It is especially suitable for Hoyas with an epiphytic or semi-epiphytic growth habit, as well as for Dischidias and similar plants that thrive in a coarse, well-draining substrate.
It is ideal for plants that need an aerated root zone and efficient drainage of excess water, and for growing in ventilated pots or hanging containers with good drainage.
It is also a great choice for growers who want to replace a dense universal potting mix with a more airy blend better suited to the needs of Hoyas.
Use directly from the package in a pot with good drainage.
Place the plant in the pot and gently pour the mix around the root system. Lightly tap the pot to help the individual particles settle. Do not compact the substrate so it retains its airy structure.
After repotting, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. The surface of a coarse substrate may dry out faster than the center, so check moisture in the root zone, not only by the appearance of the surface.
The mix does not contain added fertilizer. Adjust fertilizing according to the Hoya’s active growth phase, light levels, and the season.
The substrate is supplied in an 8.5 l bag.
