Bioactive organic growing substrate that provides a moisture-retentive and biologically active base for growing houseplants. It is also a component of several of our specialized substrate mixes.
It can be used on its own where its properties suit a particular plant, or as an organic base for creating your own substrate mixes. You can combine it, for example, with pine bark, perlite, coconut chips, tree fern fiber, or mineral components.
It is particularly suitable for experienced growers who want to create their own substrate mixes according to the needs of specific plants.
You can use it to add a moisture-retaining organic component to coarser mixes, or combine it, for example, with pine bark and coarse perlite for plants grown in standard pots with drainage.
It is also suitable as a base for custom mixes for aroid plants, plant propagation, cacti and succulents. Use it on its own only for plants and in conditions that benefit from its ability to retain moisture.
When preparing your own substrate, measure the individual components by volume and adjust their ratio to the plant’s root system, the type of pot, your watering method, and the growing conditions.
To improve aeration and drainage, add coarse perlite or pine bark. If you want to increase the mix’s ability to retain or evenly distribute moisture, you can add coco chips or tree fern fiber.
Remember that one recipe is not suitable for all plants. By changing the particle size and their ratio, you also change the speed at which the root zone becomes moist and then dries out.
The substrate does not contain added fertilizer. Adjust fertilizing to the specific plant, the season, the amount of light, and the intensity of growth.
